Aims & Perspectives
To enhance the quality and advancement
of research and technology in both Basic and Clinical Medical Sciences, the
Office of the Deputy Dean for Research and Technology has established the
following objectives:
- Facilitate the implementation and successful completion
of research activities, including student theses/dissertations, faculty
research projects, and studies related to the disease registration system;
- Promote scientific collaboration with national and
international institutions and universities;
- Enforce ministerial and university bylaws, and oversee
the revision and update of existing regulations;
- Support faculty members and students in conducting
original, clinical, and applied research by organizing seminars,
workshops, and training sessions;
- Improve both the quantity and quality of research
outputs;
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of ongoing research
projects;
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration between basic
and clinical science departments;
- Align academic research with societal needs and the
demands of industry and technology sectors.
To achieve these goals, the department
emphasizes strategic planning, effective management, and motivation of faculty
and students to pursue high-quality research utilizing the department’s
enhanced facilities.
Core Responsibilities
The current responsibilities of the
Deputy Dean for Research and Technology include:
- Developing research policies through meetings with the
Dean of Faculty, departmental managers, and the Student Research
Committee;
- Collaborating with the University’s Office of the Vice
Chancellor for Research and Technology to enhance research initiatives;
- Managing the Faculty Research Council meetings to
review and approve student theses/dissertations and faculty research
proposals;
- Overseeing the complete thesis process—from
registration to submission—across all academic levels (including general
medicine, specialty and subspecialty programs, PhDs, general
practitioners, and master's degrees);
- Supervising thesis defense sessions;
- Organizing briefings, research seminars, festivals for
top theses and student projects, research workshops, and summer schools to
empower students, faculty, and researchers.
Strategic Development Plans
In line with the long- and short-term
strategic vision of the department, several initiatives are underway to expand
research capacity:
- Enhancing the online portal of the Deputy Dean for
Research and Technology to disseminate news, updates, and opportunities
related to research;
- Structuring and managing the School of Medicine’s
Research Ethics Committee;
- Creating an electronic database for theses and research
projects;
- Promoting systematic qualitative and quantitative
evaluation of research outputs;
- Implementing incentives to recognize and encourage
researchers’ contributions;
- Continuing to host research congresses, conferences,
and festivals with a focus on improved quality and impact;
- Optimizing library management as a key support service
for academic research.
