:Message from
the Head of the Department
An important
challenge faced by humanity over time has been diseases and the approaches to
combat them. Infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, leprosy,
gastrointestinal and respiratory infections have existed since the beginning of
life on Earth, and diseases like influenza, plague, and typhus, as well as more
recent and emerging diseases such as tuberculosis, SARS, HIV/AIDS, and of
course COVID-19, have caused significant mortality. In today's world, the sharp
increase in antibiotic resistance and malignancies caused by bacteria has once
again drawn scientists' attention to this branch of knowledge.
The
Microbiology Department of the Medical School hopes to achieve the following
goals through a
scheduled program:
Launching and
expanding modern diagnostic methods
Identify and
control hospital infections
Understanding
the virulence factors of bacteria and viruses, with an emphasis on common
infectious diseases in the province
Design and
develop vaccines and immunogens
Design and
introduce therapeutic probiotics
Research on
identifying the microbiome and related infectious and non-infectious diseases
Microbiological
research based on new knowledge such as nanotechnology, systems biology,
bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence
Expand national
and international collaborations
Additionally,
the Microbiology Department is responsible for teaching microbiology to
medical, pharmacy, dental students, as well as Master's students in
microbiology and Doctoral students in bacteriology at the Medical School.
