Research

The Department of General Surgery has demonstrated a strong commitment to research throughout its history.

The Department’s research breakthroughs continue to come from faculty members who work full-time in basic science research and from operating surgeons who devote considerable time to basic science or clinical investigations.

Research training opportunities begin at the undergraduate level, through programs that ignite scientific interest and teach skills in professional scholarship. We believe that a true fusion of basic science and clinical expertise is instrumental for the training of tomorrow's surgeon-scientists, translating discoveries from the bench to innovative therapies at the bedside
